So, after the church, we journeyed on the subway to the Longhua Temple. Amazing. We have some video that probably captures it better, I actually am not sure I can adequately describe it. We spent time there exploring the different temples and the ponds, watching the monks, and visitors offer incense, donations, and food for the Buddhas.
Then it was off to the Bund and Yuyan park. Jason was not impressed with our subway experience so he suggested a taxi. This photo of Catherine and I, captures our taxi experience.
The Yuyuan park was beautiful –lots of bamboo lined paths, beautiful flowers and mini-gardens and a goldfish pond. People were out enjoying the day and Catherine spent some time with other children feeding the fish. To be honest, the taxi ride was an out of body experience for the 3 of us, and we didn't take many photos there. The third photo below is me looking at the subway map seeing if we could get home without a taxi.
The Bund is a promenade along the river in-between Shanghai, the old city and older architecture, and Pudong, the new city with new architecture. Ray had suggested we could not come to Shanghai without seeing it, and I am glad he did. The walk also gave us a chance to see some other parts of Shanghai. Each part is so different. I don’t think the photos we have really capture this.
And yes, we did take the subway home. Another experience. But so glad we did it.
Time to pack and go to Beijing now. We cannot wait t meet our travel group - CCAI 1591! Catherine cannot wait to hang out with some other children. She has been talking about her friends in Minneapolis quite a bit.
Glad to see you guys made it OK (and eventually received your luggage!) Looks like you are all having fun! Can't wait to see more pictures and hear more about your trip.
